Birthday Countdown

A live, second-by-second countdown to your next birthday — and the age you will be turning.

Why a live countdown is more fun than a date

"Your birthday is on May 14th" is information. A counter ticking down past 00:00:00 is an event. We have built this page so the moment of rollover — when the seconds hit zero and your birthday officially begins — happens visibly, in front of you. Pin the tab on the night before your birthday, share the link with friends, or use it as a kid-friendly way to teach about time.

How accurate is it?

The countdown uses your device clock and updates once per second. It is therefore as accurate as your operating system\u2019s clock — typically synchronized with internet time servers to within tens of milliseconds. Time zones are handled implicitly: the countdown ends when midnight local time arrives on your birthday.

Frequently asked questions

How does the birthday countdown work?

Enter your date of birth and we compute the next time your month and day combination occurs. The page then ticks down second-by-second using your device clock — no network round-trips, so it is smooth even on slow connections.

What if my birthday is February 29th?

In non-leap years we count down to March 1st, which is the standard legal substitute used in most countries. In leap years we count down to the actual date.

Do you store the date I enter?

No. The countdown runs entirely in your browser. Refresh the page and you will need to enter your date of birth again.
